Literally meaning a "signal fire," Mt. Noroshi is said to have gotten its name from the signal fires that fishermen long ago lit when whales were sighted as well as to warn of Western ships spotted along the Kumanonada Sea at the end of Japan's feudal period.
The observation deck in Noroshiyama Park is about 80 m above sea-level and has a 360° panoramic view of the town with the Kumano Mountains in the background and the Pacific Ocean.
There are various shrines spread about the grounds with the largest being Urashima Inari-jinja.
Guests can purchase fortunes and good-luck charms, which are deserved a walk through Noroshiyama Amusement Park.
The trail to the observation deck is nestled amongst lush natural surroundings. There are flowers and vegetation to enjoy across the changing seasons.
